Was reading an article about the best burgers in Food and Wine magazine so I tried following the recipe. The trick is to put a clump of butter in the middle of the patty. Yum! More calories but it makes it extra juicy.

I've stopped eating at McDonald's so this is the closest I can get to "junk food". And this burger isn't really that "junky" since I always pile on the greens ;)

I used arugula from Santi's Yakal (it was around P140 or about $3 for a big bunch- worth it! I love arugula) and organic provolone from Australia bought at Shopwise (it was on sale! P200 for a big chunk- I'm such a sucker for cheese on sale!).

To make this yourself, you'll need:
ground beef
hamburger buns
tomatoes- sliced
arugula- or whatever greens you like
carrots- diced into tiny pieces
provolone cheese- or whatever cheese you like
garlic- chopped
onions- sliced into rings
balsamic vinegar
salt and pepper

Mix the garlic, ground beef and carrots together (yes, I add carrots to my hamburgers! Extra veggies, extra nutrition), then add salt and pepper. Form these into balls and add a piece of butter into the middle.

Fry bacon until crisp. Set aside.

Saute the onion rings (in bacon oil, yes!) until soft and caramelized. Add a bit of balsamic vinegar. Set aside.

Cook the beef patties until brown on all sides. Put this on top of the hamburger buns, then layer your cheese, onions, sliced tomatoes, greens and bacon. Add ketchup, mayo and mustard if you like.

I would have added jalapeno peppers too but I couldn't open the bottle. LOL

Extremely messy to eat, but absolutely delish.
