Fried Oreos

This is all The Pickiest Eater's fault!

There I was minding my own business when he suddenly posts about their trip to the markets and their food finds. He planted the seed in my head, and it grew and grew until I couldn't take it anymore. So I made myself a batch of Fried Oreos. Ack!

I first tasted Fried Oreos at a former classmate's resto in UP Village. One bite and I was so hooked. I probably went there every other week for two months.

Fried Oreos are actually so easy to make, I don't know why we don't make it often enough.

Oh who am I kidding?! I'm scared of frying things. Popping oil can make me sprint away from the stove in nanoseconds.

But this time, my craving for these sweet treats made me brave enough to face the hot, scary golden liquid.

Follow these instructions and you'll soon be in junk dessert heaven.

Prepare pancake batter. I use Pillsbury pancake mix and just eyeball if the water I'm adding is enough already. The batter needs to be a bit thick so it coats and clings to the cookie really well.

Heat some oil in a pot. The cookies need to be deep fried so it's better to use a small pot so you won't waste a lot of oil. Quickly dunk the Oreo into the pancake batter and carefully put it into the hot oil. Leave it be for a few seconds, then when the coating turns golden brown, scoop it out from the oil and drain it in a couple of paper towels. You can sprinkle it with confectioner's sugar or chocolate powder.

One bite and you're doomed. Sugar crack!

And since I was still high, I also tried dunking marshmallows in the pancake batter. That wasn't a very successful experiment... teehee!
