Coffee and Croissant

I have loved croissants for as long as I can remember. I love the buttery, flaky layers, and the gentle crunching sound it makes when you bite into one. My mom would bring home some from French Baker for pasalubong. They were always the ham and cheese kind. I'd be so happy when I'd get to bring one to school for my baon.

As I got older, I'd indulge and buy a croissant for myself once in a while. When I was still working in Makati, the Whole Wheat Croissant with Butter became my default order at Starbucks. I didn't even bother with the coffee.

For some reason, they stopped selling the whole wheat kind and now only sell French Butter (still priced at P65), which is fine by me. I've read enough articles and books to know that one of my favorite things in the world can't exactly be considered as health food so it doesn't matter if they use whole wheat flour or not. Haha!

When I was at Santi's a few days ago, I spotted some croissants on the counter. So I asked how much they were and was shocked that they were only priced at P35 a piece. And they were HUGE! I silently thanked God for finally answering my prayers for a cheaper source of croissants (haha!), grabbed a couple and Mike and I had them for breakfast. I sliced them in middle and tucked in a slice of ham and brie before popping them in the oven.

We had Columbian coffee to go with it. Sarap!
