Turmeric Chicken

For the past weeks, I’ve been craving for food bursting with flavor. I decided to whip up a batch of Turmeric chicken which we first got to taste on a quick beach trip to Shady Shack in Indonesia.

This is so easy to make. And the flavor combinations are really quite interesting! Using a new spice to prepare good ol' fried chicken makes dinner even more exciting :)

You’ll need:
Chicken- I used thighs.
Ground turmeric powder
Salt and pepper
Cooking oil
Onions- sliced

Marinate the chicken in a mixture of turmeric, salt and pepper for a few hours or overnight.

Fry in hot oil until golden, then drain on paper towels. Meanwhile, fry onion rings until golden and crisp, drain on paper towels then serve with the chicken.

Serve with rice and veggies for sidings.

I had zucchini so I used that. I imagine eating this with a carrot or potato mash, or perhaps with some blanched green beans, too.

We enjoyed this with chilli sauce and sweet sauce bought from Singapore. Alternate drizzling sweet sauce and chili sauce on to the chicken and rice. It’s an interesting combination, I tell you!

The Sweet Sauce we bought, I think, is similar to the Indonesian ketchup manis, a thick sweet soy sauce. It just wasn't labeled as such. You can add a bird’s eye chili for some added kick!
