Tastes of Home by Sari Jorge

This is a bit overdue, but I'd like to share with you one of the highlights of my 2013.

As the Features Editor of Yummy, I had the privilege of working with talented individuals who had an immense passion for good food. One of the chefs I often got to work with was Sari Jorge, the kind chef who runs the incredibly successful 25 Mushrooms Kitchen of Valle Verde. The cooking school offers workshops for household help, empowering manangs to create delicious feasts for the families they care for. From Mexican, Japanese, Korean cuisine, to festive holiday dinners and brunch fare, graduates of 25 Mushrooms have an arsenal of sumptuous dishes in their cooking repertoire.

When Sari asked me if I was interested in styling her cookbook, I immediately got on board. So for a couple of months, I'd spend Saturdays (and sometimes Sundays) with Sari and Roy, her husband and photographer, and the 25 Mushrooms staff. Oh if only I had taken behind-the-scenes photos of my prop table! It was organized chaos. Haha!

And of course, a great perk from being the book's stylist was that I had the chance to taste the dishes featured. My favorites are Janells's Orange and Cranberry Oat Scones with Vanilla Glaze (best scones ever!!!), Vigan Longganisang Hubad, Baked Macaroni and Cheese, and the Roast Porkloin with Mustard Herbed Breadcrumbs. I baked and gave away scones for Christmas, and I'm looking forward to whip up the other dishes when I get the chance.

This book is truly a labor of love. I am so awed by Sari's passion for good food and entertaining. I can only dream to be as effortlessly chic as her some day!

For my first official book project, I must say I'm mighty proud of the work I was able to produce. Looking forward to many more! :)
